Blas Picón & The Junk Express…

Is a train loaded with waste, the product of lost lives, that runs rampant on the rails of the Blues without fear to derail.

Trio of recent formation that bet on the hand more austere, stark and virulent Rhythm & blues, leaving apart flourishes and musical fanfare to focus on the interior of this style.

References like Jerry McCain, Kid Thomas or McKenzie George Lightfoot, The Junk Express collects basic, so often discarded items, which make up this musical tradition and carrying them on a train with their own name. Raw sound and an energetic attitude… Blues in its essence.

  • Blas Picón – Vocals, harmonica and whistle
  • Oscar Rabadán – Guitar
  • Reginald Vilardell – Drumsónthejunkexpress

Big Dani Pérez…

Dani Pérez is one of the most renowned saxophonists of the Spanish Rock n Roll, Rhythm & Blues, Jump Blues and Boogie-Woogie scene.

Louis Jordan and Big Jay MacNeely, Sam Butera are some of the most important references for Dani Perez.

Currently he collaborates with renowned musicians in the national scene, such as: Lluis Coloma, Groove House, Los Rebeldes, Big Jamboree, etc…..

“Dani Pérez, with the courage and unconsciousness that youth gives us (talent too, of course), he not only composes and plays, but dares to sing with a voice that avoids  histrionics and pedantry, also arranged the songs and produced the recording. On top of it he paid for it, we have no choice but to buy it and recommend it to our friends…”

-Carlos Segarra (Los Rebeldes).

Lone Rhino Club

Band formed in 1987 by Julio Lobos, with a lot of great energy in creating their own songs as well as performing Rhythm & Blues classics by Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Willie Dixon, Howling Wolf, Elmore James, etc.

Julio Lobos: Vocals, keyboard, piano, harmonica, accordion, kazoo.

The Suitcase Brothers…

THE SUITCASE BROTHERS is a dynamic country blues duo formed in 1999 by two brothers.

PERE ‘Peter’ PUERTAS was born on W.C Handy’s birthday (November 16th), has a powerful and soulful voice, and a deep knowledge of fingerpicking guitar techniques, particularly the Pre-War and Piedmont Blues styles. His main inspiration comes basically from recordings by Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Paul Rishell & Annie Raines, John Cephas & Phil Wiggins, and Steve James.

VICTOR PUERTAS, was born on Sonny Terry’s birthday (October 24th), is a powerful harmonica player, who also plays piano, Hammond organ and guitar. Nevertheless, harmonicas are his love at the first feel, and he plays them with deep emotion and sensibility. He is one of the top five favourites in Jerry Portnoy’s, Annie Raines and Joe Filisko’s list.

They were elected by 32 Blues Experts (Radios, Blues Festivals Directors, Blues Critics, Presidents of Blues Associations and Musicians) as the Best Acoustic Blues duo to represent their country, Spain, in the first European Blues Challenge (EBC) held in Berlin, Germany, in March 2011.

 LLuis Coloma…

Born in Barcelona (1973), Lluís is one of the most active and well known pianists in the national Blues and Boogie Woogie scene. Influenced from an early age by records of Jerry Lee Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes and Alan Price, Lluís slowly moved away from his classical piano studies to dedicate himself, in a self-taught way, exclusively to Rock & Roll. He soon displayed a surprising ability for Blues and Boogie Woogie… Considered a specialist and awarded the “Musician of the year 2003″ award by the Association of musicians of Jazz and modern music of Catalonia, “Artist BluesCat 2006″ (best blues artist in Catalonia) and the “Sabadellenc Prize 2007″.  Lluís has given conferences and master classes on the history of Blues and Boogie Woogie piano, being one of the few pianists in Spain able to recreate the primitive styles of this genre. Lluís is also a regular show in European Blues festivals, noted for his energy and authenticity…

Amadeu Casas…

Musician from Barcelona with an extensive experience in the field of Blues, he has participated in the most ambitious Blues projects in Catalonia and has been the founding member of prestigious bands such as: Blues Reunion, Blues Messengers, Slide Company and Tandoori Lenoir.

He has participated on numerous occasions in different festivals, in Catalonia and outside the province. Collaborating with musicians of the stature of: Louisiana Red, Guitar Crusher, Johnny Mars, Philip Walker, Joe “Guitar” Hughes, Hook Herrera, Julian Piper, Shirley Johnson, Eddie King…

His reputation as a guitarist and his extensive knowledge of the roots of rural blues make him a perfect guest wherever we want to experience the pureness of this genre.

Xulian Freire…

Stylistically difficult to situate and aware that the blues is an art in continuous change and evolution, Xulián Freire’s blues is based on lessons learned from the extensive history of the blues and on his own journey through it. His technique on the six strings is influenced by pre-war blues guitarists such as Big Bill Broonzy and Skip James, as well as other electric artists, such as T-Bone Walker or Magic Slim, creating compelling rhythms that develop into long guitar solos. His way of singing is more difficult to track down, coming from the blues,  R’n’B and soul music, mixing influences as diverse as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Redding, or Captain Beefheart…
